「U」は、大量生産品に飽きた全ての人々が、手作りのモダンなプロダクトにアクセスできるように建築家・宇野友明が2021年に設立したオリジナルブランドです。日本の愛知県で生まれた宇野友明は、1990年に建築設計事務所を開設し、洗練された美意識と、構造と素材への類稀な感性によって、美しい建築を数多く生み出してきました。さらに彼は、自らのデザインをより純粋に職人たちへ伝えるために、2003年に建築を作る工房を設立しました。それ以降、彼は自身が厳選した職人たちとともに、すべて手作りで建築を作ってきました。ここで紹介するプロダクトは、その中で生まれてきたものたちです。

"U" was founded in 2021 by architect Tomoaki Uno to give access to handmade, modern products to all those tired of mass-produced products. Born in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, Tomoaki Uno opened his office in 1990 and has created many beautiful architectures with a refined aesthetic and an exceptional sensitivity to structure and materials. In 2003 he set up a workshop to make architecture, purely to communicate his designs to craftsmen. Since then, he has been working with a carefully selected group of artisans to create all his architecture by hand. The products presented here are the result of this process.

The products of the "U" brand, made by carefully selected craftsmen, are never identical. Instead, the workmanship is a natural difference depending on various conditions such as materials and climate. In addition, the fluctuations caused by their handiwork create a unique taste that cannot be found in mass-produced products. Each one is the original product.

鉄の職人である隈本さんは40年以上のキャリアを持つベテランの職人だ。

彼は精密部品から工作機械、建築まで作る鉄のスペシャリストだ。

しかし、彼の仕事の真価は、みえないところにある。

最小限の部材で最大の性能を引き出す卓越した彼の能力無くしては、

「U」のプロダクトは生まれてこなかった。

Mr. Kumamoto is a veteran ironworker with a career spanning over 40 years. He is an iron specialist who makes everything from precision parts to machine tools and construction. However, the real value of his work lies in the INVISIBLE part. Without his exceptional ability to get the best out of the smallest components, the "U" brand of hardware would never have been created.
